The folks over at OPI have collaborated with Miss Katy Perry to produce a new collection of polish for the spring and we are all mad hopping excited! I know I was. It may have mostly been for the "shatter" special effect topcoat that has been all the rage overseas right now, but whatever for, the buzz has been huge for this collection.
Let's start with the colors! The glitter first shall we? Teenage Dream is a pale rose pink glitter, with different shapes and sizes of traditional glitter and big holographic pieces. Very pretty in the bottle and very pretty on the nail. I was worried it would be sheer and it was a little, but I think two thick coats worked out nicely for me. I have this on my toes right now!
Now the Black Shatter! It's amazing. I'm not going to lie, when I first saw pictures of the graffiti and crackle polishes that were popping up in the trends overseas, I was going "blech!", it just didn't look attractive to me! But dang it all I am not a snob, I decided, and I held my head (and brush) high and gave it a go. And I'm so glad I did because I freaking love it. I don't know, maybe OPI is just super awesome but I think the shatter effect is better than some that I've seen before or something? It's big and scattered and looks almost like leopard spots, which is what Katy Perry wanted! I love when a plan comes together ;) I love this combo.
Last Friday Night is a blue glitter with the same type of large pieces as Teenage Dream. It unfortunately is more sheer than I'd like, but still pretty. It is not terribly unique, again unfortunately. But I can appreciate something for what it is, right? This is three coats.
I really like Last Friday Night under Black Shatter, very fun and funky!
Not Like the Movies is the polish that I thought would be my favorite out of this collection but it turned out to be my least favorite, surprising! It still is rather fetching, though don't get me wrong. It's a grey/silver with a green and purple oil slick duochrome metallic with bits of silvery white (?) glitter! Unusual and yet not unique. I didn't love the application and I wasn't crazy about the brushstrokes. But there will be folks that don't give a lick and that will adore this guy. So there you go. Two coats.
Not Like the Movies under Black Shatter is real nice though, as it disguises the brushstrokes and gives only a hint of duochrome. Loves!
And last is the lacquer I thought I would like the least, turns out to be my favorite of the collection, The One that Got Away. It is very similar to Let Me Entertain You from the Burlesque collection, the base color is a bit more burgundy and there is no foil finish. I would say you probably don't need both polishes. This was a bit sheer too, though. Three coats.
Under Black Shatter, I wasn't expecting The One that Got Away to be very striking but I la la loved it! Very sexy. *rawr*
Also, I've included my newest YouTube vid, my first "live" one. Sorry if it sucks, or if one commenter said "this is literally watching paint dry." haha. It's only about 2 minutes long tho ;)
