Hard Candy Sky

The "new" Hard Candy's take on their old classic Sky. Prettier in my opinion than the original version, this is basically a dupe of Chanel Riva. Baby blue with slight sky blue shimmer. Chalky and thick and real hard to paint with unfortunately. But look how pretty!! This is three painstakingly, craptastically applied coats.

hard candy

hard candy used to have some of the most innovative and creative nail polish colors on the market! their style was crazy, kooky, and anything but conformist. they have been a sensation since they started back in 1995, when alicia silverstone name dropped them on a late night tv show and their business began to boom. idk what happened between now and then but after a few times of being bought and sold, they have changed their line a bit. their new line includes more cosmetics and less nail polish, although the polish is still around. they are now being sold in wal-mart for about $5 a bottle for.35 fl oz, a tidy sum for a drugstore polish i suppose.  here are a few shades from their new line, that have been in stores since about fall of last year.
pretty in punk is a creme pink that is very pigmented and opaque, this is two coats.  i like this type of pink, a bright but not neon color that shouts "look at me"!  the polishes all ring rather smelly, this one was probably the most fragrant.
mr. wrong was my favorite out of these three, a purpley/denim blue glitter mixed with yellow gold.  super sparkly and super bling!  j'adore :)  looks great with a regular shiny topcoat or a matte one, like china glaze's matte magic.
splendid was a bit of a problem child, but what is one to expect from a yellow?  (i always wonder why people send yellows for review, they are rarely representative of a polish line.)  i do like the color, very buttery and warm.  a bit thick but again, it is a yellow.
i do wish they would take a cue from the past and bring back some of the old unapologetic colors from the old line, however i suppose that is too much to hope for.  have you tried any of the new hard candy polishes?  how about the makeup?  i've tried the eyeliners and gotten pretty good results, and have heard good things about the lip glosses.  have a sunny day, sunshines!

hard candy lava

this polish is one of the awesome reds that i adore. i don't usually get into reds all that much, they make me feel kinda silly and flashy--which doesn't make a whole lot of sense considering i'll wear a bright orange or glitzy bright blue without batting an eye. but oh well, ho hum, that's just me. hard candy polishes, the new ones anyway, are actually not my favorite. i find they stink something awful and the formula is usually hard to work with. but this baby, lava be her name, is a shining star amongst the pack.

three coats and you get warm red shining with glitzy gold glitter. it has the ember-like glow that i adore and the glitter looks almost melted into the color, hence the name lava. the formula on this polish was really good too, looking a bit sheer on the first coat but fully opaque in three. la la love it!

made it matte using china glaze's matte magic (the cutest little bottle!) and gave it an even more intense "glow". gawd i love making polishes matte! how did i live w/o matte topcoats??
and a big ol' macro shot
hope everyone's weekend was fun! i went to an awesome pro soccer game and saw "how to train your dragon". that movie was so good, definitely recommend it. now i should probably go to bed, back to the weekday grind in the morning :P

polish present

this is a short post because believe it or not, even though school is out for a while and i'm back from vacation, i'm still kinda swamped right now haha. haven't gotten any posts together juuuust yet but i will be back with a vengeance soon :D

a while ago on a post i made a comment about two zoya polishes that i had been wanting forever, and one of my lovely kind generous amazing readers Amy contacted me letting me know she had the colors i had been lemming and didn't care for them. and imagine my SURPRISE when a few weeks later i received a giant box full of polishes from her! miss Amy sent me all of these polishes pictures below (i apologize for the poor picture quality). tons of zoyas including Pasha and Ki, the ones i had been desperately wanting, some china glazes, a hard candy, an opi and my first nicole polish!
i was flabbergasted at my good fortune and wanted to thank Amy personally again. can't wait to show you all the swatches! i've already worn a bunch of them ♥
