Guest Post by Very Emily: Minty Stamping

Please enjoy the following post from my friend Emily!

--

Hi everyone! My name is Emily and I run the blog Very Emily. I'm kind of fangirling to be guest posting for Kellie today, she was one of the very first blogs I started following way back when her blog was still called Also Known As... I think we started blogging around the same time so I'm proud of us both for still being around after such a long time!

I wasn't quite sure what to create for my guest post but ended up feeling inspired by some nail art I spied on the Pet'la Plate Facebook page. I ended up with something slightly different but I really loved the concept so I had to recreate something similar!

I started with Icing Mintage as my base, a gift from my friend Deborah (Love Varnish) who brought this back for me from NYC. We don't have this brand here, which is a shame because I loved this polish! Then I stamped over it with a diagonal stripes image from Pet'la Plate Loomy Sunday using Mundo De Unas black and white stamping polish. Finished it with Glisten & Glow HK Girl top coat. While they didn't turn out perfect I loved how these looked from a short distance. So unusual and almost 3-dimensional looking.

Hope you like them Kellie and thank you so much for having me!

Icing - Lemme See Your Peacock

This is a fun glitter that I got from Icing, called Lemme See Your Peacock. It's named after the Katy Perry song I'm assuming, but if anything that makes it worse haha. That song is ridiculously annoying and the connotation is so dorky. But a cool polish is a cool polish am I right?

Peacock has a clear base with largeish blue, green, and purple hex glitter. Super cool eh? This is two coats of glitter over OPI Vampsterdam from the Holland collection.

You can get Icing polishes from Icing stores, the sister store to Claire's. They are $4.50 each and there is a perpetual "Buy 1 Get 1 50% Off" sale on cosmetics. Have a happy Easter!

Icing Magnetix - Green

What's up ninjas? Today I would like to show you my newest favorite magnetic polish. It's from Icing and it doesn't really have a name I don't think, but the color is fabulous! It's mossy metallic goldish green with glittahhh. In case you don't know, magnetic polishes are a newfangled special effects type of nail polish that has metallic particles in it, so when a magnet is held over the nail the iron powder pulls forward toward the surface forming a pattern. Most of the polishes have the special magnet with the design hidden inside on the cap, with a little lip to rest your finger on so your nail gets super close but doesn't touch the magnet itself.
See the little edges? Very convenient.
This cap has a diagonal line design, but there are others like a star design and chevrons, etc. This is two coats of polish, on the second coats I applied the magnet right away after I polished each nail. The magnet on this was super strong, I could actually see the particles forming the design as it happened! I've used way worse magnets and it can be frustrating to work with them.

I love the gittahhh :D You can buy these Magnetix polishes from Icing stores (in most shopping malls) for $9, and they always have a "Buy One, Get One 50% Off" sale on cosmetics.

My Valentine's Nails

Hey folks, hope your Valentine's day was sweet and full of sugar and luuuuuvvv. I'm not big into the holiday, never have been much of a romantic. Plus I'm single haha :P Thought I'd make it a fantastical nail day anyway and I wore this set of falsies from Icing. They remind me of Ke$ha or Gaga. Really impractical and gaudy. I loved them instantly.

These were fun but I had a hard time fitting my nails perfectly as there were only 10 nails total and um I have 10 fingers and guess what not every person's nails are the same size. So that was a little lame, filing almost everyone of the nails. I doubt I'd buy another set from Icing like this, even though they were fun. I wasn't too concerned about showing accurate color like I am most of my swatch photos, so I put some vignette on the edges. Sickening, no?

Icing Halloween Polishes

Hey everyone! Hope you are all doing well. I wanted to show you some polishes I got at Icing before Halloween. They are "themed" a bit for Halloween but they would be equally enjoyable at any other time of the year as well. I found I liked them much more than I expected to. The colored glitter in a dark base is really kinda been done, and they always seem to look cooler in the bottles than on the nail. I shrugged my shoulders and decided to try them out anyway, not expecting the fab payoff that I got. I really love both of these.

Vampire's Blood has a black cream base with oodles of tiny magenta dark pink glitter. It looks great on and it was flashy and blingy but not knock-you-over-the head type of glittery. Very nice! It is a topcoat guzzler though, I used two coats of polish and two coats of topcoat.

Witch's Brew is equally awesome, with glitter in a greeny-blue turquoise shade. This one I think looks killer with my skin tone. It reminds me of a galactic nebula or something like that! Two coats on this one too.

I am guessing you'll still be able to find these at your local Icing stores, considering it hasn't been long since Halloween and their stock usually tends to be pretty abundant. Hope you have a great Friday everyone!!

Icing - Absinthe

OMG y'all, I think this polish has curbed my craving for a super HTF lemming! Icing Absinthe, could you be a dupe for *gasp* China Glaze Moonpool?! Well, no, this is way more neon. But it comes close enough, and dare I say it might be prettier! Y'know, it's really like a cross between Moonpool and another ChG hard to find, Limonyte. Whatever it is, I like it.

You can get Icing polishes at their stores for $4.50, and they have a "forever" sale of buy one cosmetic item get one half off. The brush on this was too thick and fat. It needs to go on a diet. I got some staining on my cuticles from just swatching this (mostly from the fatty brush), so you'll need at least two coats of a good base or you'll get alien fingers.

Icing Bedazzled

Bedazzled is a purple and pink and blue glitter concoction suspended in a clear polish. It's not something I would normally go for but I really like how these colors work together. This is three coats and no topcoat. Very nice shine and surprisingly non-gritty for a straight-glitter polish, très impressive! I like the Icing brush (very China Glaze-esque) and its big ol' bottle is nice and hefty. Plus Icing has the forever promo of "Buy 1 get 1 50% Off" for their beauty products, so I normally peruse their stuff whenever I go to the mall. What do you think of this guy?

random pic spam

nyx las vegas is a sexy green that covers well in two coats. i usually like weird bottle shapes but the nyx bottle turns me off :/ oh well this color is so hawt! a must have.
sinful colors soul mate is a lovely medium pink with not much remarkableness, but i totally love it.  goes really well with any skin tone and is a very work appropriate shade.  this is two coats.
pure ice is a walmart brand polish that comes out with pretty great colors, i don't know why i don't have more of them actually.  this is one of my favorites, twinkle.  it's a mango orangey coral with gold orange shimmer.  two coats :)
icing skinny dip is another lovely work appropriate shade that is rather unremarkable but still called enough to me to buy it so i obviously liked it, haha.  it's a nice light pale pink with subtle shimmer.  this is two coats.  i remember this one being a bit thick.
essie lolipop is a stunner, and one of my very favorite jellies ever.  it's a red WHAM POW shade that essie really set the bar on.  this is two coats on my nubbins.
china glaze's midnight ride is part of the rodeo diva collection, my favorite collection ever.  it's a dark and glowy purple that is kin to gussied up green and rodeo fanatic.  adore this!  two coats.
sinful colors plunie plum is kind of a weird unique mauve color.  i really love this frosty shade.  it was very flattering on my skin tone.  i made it matte with china glaze's matte magic topcoat and it was even prettier.  two coats.
color club feel the beat is an orangey red almost marbled polish that came from the the musique collection color club put out a while ago.  i got this as a present from my dear friend niki aka magic maid.  thanks girl!  this is three coats.
maybelline wet shine series were some of the best polishes ever!  so cute and very wearable.  this one is called peach gleam.  another polish i got from miss niki, on a blog sale.  this is three coats.
catrice is a european brand but i got this from my stateside friend miss ange-marie on a blog sale.  soft lilac is a gorgeous shimmery pale purple that is really beautiful and classic.  this is three coats.
new york summer aramanth is probably the ultimate grass green jelly out there.  if you are a green lover, you need this polish.  kind of a problem child for application, but the old school jellies usually are.  this is four coats.
sinful colors you just wait looks like the topcoat that was left out of the zoya reverie collection, i mean if there was one.  sheer pink wash with gold shimmer and not really my usual style, for some reason this baby just called to me.  three coats and still very sheer looking, in real life there is almost enough shine and shimmer to look totally covered!  i adore this and it would look great layered i'm sure.
*whew* hope that wasn't too much for ya on this gorgeous (rainy) sunday :)  love ya!

xoxo,
kelliegonzo
