MAC Surf Baby Lacquers: Swatches & Review

Happy Friday to all, I am glad the week is over *phew* It's been a rather stressful and dorky few days for me. In case you haven't noticed, or are reading this by email or via feed, I have a new site design! Yes, I am very classy and important ;)

Today I have to show you the MAC Surf Baby nail polishes, which I admit I bought half because I like the colors and half because I adore the special packaging. (I forgot to take pictures of the awesome-sauce boxes though, duh doi, what was I thinking *face, palm*) With the extra prettyness though comes an extra $1.50 added on to the price per polish though. Oh well, 'tis the price we pay for goodies sometimes.

Hangin' Loose is described as a dirty pink nude. I see it as a fleshy peach nude with gorgeous shimmer that is very wearable, at least for me. The formula on this is lovely though slightly sheer. I was able to get this opaque in three carefully placed coats.

And you know they needed more color in there, so Ocean Dip is a mid-tone crème aqua turquoise. I can't find an exact dupe for this in my collection but there are a few that come close. Most of its sisters pull either too blue or too green. I find this a lovely edition to my stash. The formula was rather thin and watery, but it evened out at three coats.

You can buy these online at www.maccosmetics.com or at your local MAC counter, while supplies last as they are limited edition, for $15 each.

MAC In the Buff

With the upcoming Surf Baby collection from MAC coming up, I was thinking about their last years shore-themed collection, To the Beach and it reminded me that I had gotten the lacquer In the Buff from it and hadn't tried it yet. I was thinking it would look nice on my longer than usual nails (at the time) so I slapped it on.
I really really want to love this but it isn't doing it for me like I thought it would. I thought it would be like a 9 on a scale of 1-10 and it's more like a 5. Boo. I still love the color itself but I'm not totally enchanted over it on me. It's a sandy muted tan crème, with an almost green undertone. This is three coats.
*Le Sigh* Oh well. I hope Scorcher, the other polish from To the Beach looks better on me. I'll swatch it one of these days :)

MAC Biker Blue

This MAC polish is from the new Jeanius collection, called Biker Blue. It's described as having a black base with purple and blue pearl. Uhhh, I disagree. It looks like a dark blue with blue sparkle with a super slight purple duochrome. Pretty, but not as pretty as I had hoped. This is three coats.

MAC Wonder Women lacquers

I'm not usually pulled in by packaging alone, but I just fell in love with the look of the Wonder Women collection from MAC. The nail polishes are pretty basic, blue and red but the red topped bottles with the Wonder Woman log just reeled me in. I had to have them!
Obey Me is a fab name for a polish, and this red is a great red. Pigmented wonderfully and formulated perfectly. Two coats.
Spirit of Truth is an all American navy blue, also with amazing pigmentation. The formula is pretty typical MAC cream. Two coats.

Randoms

Here are a few lacquers that I've swatched but haven't posted yet so now's the time I suppose :)

BB Couture Seashells is a light pink crème lacquer that is very sweet and dainty. I enjoy sporting a modest nail look like this every so often, but I count myself lucky that I don't have to wear "work appropriate" colors such as this every day at my job. We have a pretty lax dress code. This is three coats.
Colorama Hippie Chic is a polish Miss Sarah B. picked out for me from her home country of Brazil. This is a bright teal a shade or two lighter than I've seen before. Very nice with two coats.
Girls Will Be Girls by MAC is a polish I got in a swap a few days ago. A pretty pink and coral opalescent lacquer. This is four coats.
Pin Up is another Brazilian lacquer from Sarah, by Impala. It's an awesome dark pink metallic, interwoven with some silver. Two coats for this hawt mama!

MAC Bad Fairy

I got this MAC polish in a swap. I wasn't sure about liking this polish at all, thinking it was just a dupe for OPI's The Show Must Go On. I am super sick of all the dupes that came out last year. Hoping that this year is different. Good thing Bad Fairy isn't a dupe! Very different toned from TSMGO, thankfully. I ended up really liking this baby. This is two coats.

mac polishes

mac polishes have kind of a bad rap.  i don't know why, as far as i've experienced them, they have been fine for me.  i like the bottles and the formulas are usually alright.

this polish is called so rich, so pretty, from the alice+olivia collection.  and it IS soooooo pretty!  i borrowed this from a friend and i'm bummed that i didn't buy it for myself.  a gorgeous red toned magenta purple with unbelievable shimmer that just won't quit.  this is two coats.
this polish is called india blue, from the liberty of london collection.  a gorgeous dusty slate blue creme, it's not close to really anything i have which is cool.  i borrowed this one too and of course i am now lemming it for myself :)  this is three coats.  please excuse the screen shadow from my window haha, how did i not see that when i was taking the picture haha?!
i love the cute boxes on specialty collections!  but the bird on the liberty of london bottle freaks me out, it looks possessed.  hope your weekend is going well!
