FingerPaints Film Noir Collection Swatches & Review

FingerPaints is Sally Beauty's in-house brand of nail polish and I used to buy them all the time when I used to live by the stores. But since I've moved to a much smaller town, where the most exciting store is CVS :( , I haven't bought as many as I used to. So when I got the chance to try some of their recent collections for review, I was quite happy! This collection came out during the middle/end of the summer so they might still be in stores. It's called the Film Noir collection and it's made up of four polishes that all dry to a matte finish.

First is Petal Obsession, a pale baby pink. This had a quite finicky formula, it dries very quickly so it was hard to apply without big streaks. On the first coat, some areas even shrunk up like crackle polish does! After three coats though I was able to make it look even and nice looking. It dried very matte, not satiny.

Next is Beautiful Mystery, a pale baby blue. Same formula as the pink above, this is also three coats. I love this color!

This is Film Noir, a deep burgundy purple. It dries a few shades darker than it looks in the bottle. Same formula, maybe dried a tad slower than the others, so application was a little easier. Three coats.

And this is Hollywood Decadence, a pale milky base with a glitter mix of washed out blue, pink and gold hexes. Application was fairly easy, the glitter is quite dense. I don't really like the look of this and I have similar polishes that are prettier imho. After I did these swatches I saw some people used Hollywood over the other colors in the collection, and that looked much better than it did on its own. I used two thick coats here.

I like the look of matte polish but the application usually turns me off to buying them. I'd rather use regular polish and just apply a matte top coat. That said, there are some pretty colors in this collection if you don't mind the matte formula. Look for FingerPaints in your local Sally Beauty stores or online, they are around $5.50 per bottle. What do you think of this polish quartet? Would you wear any of them? How do you feel about mattes?

See ya next time :)

OPI Pink of Hearts 2013 Set

OPI has once again put out a limited edition Pink of Hearts set for the month of October to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research. 2013 is their 7th year promoting the cause and they have included a solid pink polish, a multicolored glitter polish, and some nail art adornments in the pack.

This is Pink-ing of You, a permanent color in the OPI line. It's a beautiful light barbie pink jelly crème. It applies amazingly, just like most jelly crèmes do for me. Very shiny and self-leveling. No streaks here. This is three thin coats.

Next is More Than a Glimmer, a mix of different sized kinda greyed-out rainbow hex glitters in a milky pinkish white base. It's a cousin to such glitters mixes as in OPI Rainbow Connection, but the glitter colors are softer and with the base it's easy to wear on it's own. I found this relatively easy to apply for a polish with so much glitter in it. This is three coats.

The set includes 10 rhinestones and 10 pink ribbon decals to use for nail art. I am a hopeless dope with nail art of any kind, but I decided to take the plunge and try them. They turned out to be so easy to use! I used tweezers to pick them off the paper and stick them on my nails. I clipped off the edge of one of the stickers on my first try though, so I would advise an easy grip on them haha. What do you think of my super easy nail art look? I love this!
OPI Pink of Hearts 2013 Set

Pink of Hearts 2013 will be available through the month of October in Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, jcp Salons, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, ULTA and ulta.com for $15.95 ($19.95 CAN) suggested retail. Pretty & Polished - Cheer Camp

I have been wallowing for a few days in a funk. As you may know, right now in Las Vegas the magic awesomeness that is the CosmoProf Las Vegas Conference is happening again. I went last year and it was so incredibly fun and exciting. I was all set to go this year, got my press pass all set, got a room at the Luxor with my blog bestie Jen the Polishaholic, and asked for the time off from work. However, due to circumstances beyond my control, I found out a while ago that I would not be able to go to the conference. And in a weird coincidence, Jen couldn't go either! I am so freaking sad and wishing I could be there so hard. I am trying to smile and read the girls' tweets and blog posts who are there and feel happy for them but it's hard, haha. I am going to have to double plan ahead for next year so I don't go through this anguish again! You can keep up with all the CosmoProf LV news via my friends', Beauty Judy and PolishGalore, blogs.

I tried to drown my tears in the beauty of a new polish, this gal is called Cheer Camp by indie seller Pretty & Polished. It's part of her Summer Camp collection. Being a cheerleader for five years during middle and high school was a huge part of my life and going to cheer camp every summer was some of the best times I've ever had. I had to get this for the name alone, but it is also just a beautiful polish.

Cheer Camp has a milky pale pink base with pastel pink and purple hex glitter and micro pink glitter. I used three coats. I got this in a mini and the glitter had already begun to sink when I got it in the mail but I let it sit upside down for a while and it was fine. It doesn't bother me but I figured it was worth mentioning.

You can get Pretty & Polished nail lacquers every so often when she restocks her Etsy store, but lately she has been doing pre-orders via her blog. Prices have varied a little so I won't list them here. Do you have any P&P polishes? How do you like them? I have Phat Camp from the same collection that I'll be showing you soon. Have a great week and to everyone at CosmoProf, TAKE A BILLION PICTURES FOR ME!!!

Pretty & Polished - Jawbreaker

This post features an indie polish seller who calls her shop Pretty & Polished. She has some really unique lacquers available, some that I like particularly because they give the look of a "jelly sandwich" using only one polish instead of two.

This one is called Jawbreaker, and it is the spitting image of the candy it's named for. It has the classic colors, blue, red, purple, green and yellow flecks, in this case different sizes and shapes of glitter, in a milky white base. You get a more translucent look with two coats, but I used three.
Shiny with topcoat
Matte-ified, seems a bit pinker than when it's shiny.
You can purchase this and other polishes by Chelsea at her Etsy shop Pretty & Polished. She sells mini and full size bottles, $4.75 for 5mL and $8.00 for 15mL. Be sure to check it out!

essie st. lucia lilac

aww i love purples, deep, light, smokey, dusty, bright, you name it, i love purple nail polish! and i know a lot of you all do too :) this is one of my cherished pastel purples, essie's st. lucia lilac. adorable name too. cremey and unforunately has a bit of the "essie sheerness" we've all experienced, but after three coats, it looks nice, semi-opaque and milky and not too streaky.

so, i got a new camera but i'm not sure that i like it yet...O_o  i haven't been too impressed with it so far.  where does everyone stand on digital cameras?  lithium ion batteries or double As?  canon, nikon, sony or something else?  idk.  there's so much stuff out there, until i have it in my hands in my home, i just don't know what i like or not ya know.  bahh dilemma.

passion

opi's passion nail polish really should be named "tender" or something like that because it's just so sweet! very milky and almost real nail color which is what i was hoping for. of course, these very light sheer types are always going to look a bit streaky up close but no one but yourself can ever tell. i tell you gals i wanted to wear this for daysss and that is so rare for me . idk why but i've been gravitating toward the more pinky/sheer colors these days. maybe because i'm so sick of my cuticles getting dyed every time i remove my polish? haha don't worry it's only a phase all you anti-pink ladies ;) this is two coats and no top coat.
