All About Nail Polish Tag

Hello there! Today I wanted to do a tag that was started by a few of my favorite YouTube ladies, Lindsay, Holly, Zenorah, Jess, and Amy. I haven't done one of these in forever and my friend Paola did it on her blog & youtube and tagged me, so I decided it would be fun to do finally! Plus, I've had almost zero sun lately so it's been hard for me to swatch new polish :P

1. What is your favorite nail polish finish (eg. Crème, crelly, glitter, etc.)?
This is a hard question for me because while I like them all, my affection for them usually comes in phases haha. Like for a while I'll be into holographics exclusively, then I only want to wear jellies, then it's all about the glitters. It seems like I'm wearing crème shades more often than the other finishes lately though, so I'll go with that haha. But it seriously varies all the time.

2. What is your favorite “ugly pretty” shade?
I have a great fondness for polish colors that people say are "ugly pretty". I love things that are not typically beautiful. Hands down, my favorite of these has to be China Glaze Zombie Zest. It came out in the China Glaze Awakening collection for Halloween in 2010 (best Halloween trio ever?) and I've loved and worn it every year since. I even managed to score a back-up bottle from my friend who went to IMATS this year, yay! It's a swampy olivey green jelly with gallons of golden shimmer/glass flecks that shift to a turquoise blue in certain lights. Insane. (I'm pretty sure this made it on a few of the original tag creators' lists too!)

3. Which polish in your collection is the most sentimental to you?
It has to be Rescue Beauty Lounge Kellie Gonzo. This is the polish I created with the, now retired, Rescue Beauty brand. It was such an exciting event and milestone in my blogging career to create a polish, especially with such a prestige brand. This is a bright sunny coral with orange and silver glitter bits. It's also the polish I've gone through the most of, luckily I have a back-up bottle or three!
Rescue Beauty Lounge Kellie Gonzo

4. If you could go back in time to buy any collection, what would it be?
If we're going for a full collection, hands down has to be China Glaze OMG. These were kind of the first ultra linear holographic collection seen from a mainstream brand and boy do they impress! I have managed to track down a lot of them, but I don't have the full collection (or full bottles of the ones I do have!). But my all time biggest polish lemming has to be Urban Decay ID. It's a sheer jelly polish that shifts from orange to pink fire. I don't know if I'll ever get a hold of it, but if I do I would cherish it forever! Also, Chanel Jade because I can't pick just one thing.

5. What is your go-to “all occasion” polish?
Sally Hansen Pacific Blue original. This polish is a bright but slightly dusty cobalt blue crème with a perfect one-coat formula. I love this color and think it's very wearable, but the biggest reason it's my all occasion polish is because it's so damn easy and fast to put on! I will never understand why Sally Hansen chose to reformulate this polish and completely change it. I know some might think a blue isn't appropriate for "all occasions", but since I'm a simple kind of girl, there aren't many times I would feel inappropriate wearing a blue nail polish.
Sally Hansen Pacific Blue original

6. What items are essential to your nail care routine?
The most important part of my nail care routine is cuticle oil. I am NEVER without it. I've spoken at length about my cuticle woes before, if you're interested you can read some of the posts here, here, and here. Next is a great base coat, I basically always have a base coat on. Keeping my nails "sealed" with some kind of polish, especially when my hands are in water, has just about 95% fixed my peeling edges. Top coat is also a necessity, I don't remember the last time I wore a full manicure without it.

7. What is your favorite “newly discovered” brand (indie or mainstream)?
This was also a tough question because I have found so many great ones recently, but I have to choose Nine Zero Lacquer. This is the brand created by Jess of JessFACE90 (one of the collaborators of this tag too). I have been lucky enough to be able to swatch for her and I haven't disliked one of her shades yet! Being a nail vlogger/swatcher herself, she knows what's good so she uses that experience to create beautiful shades with great formulas.

8. What is your go-to “bad ass” color (the color that makes you feel sexiest or most badass)?
I love a mega bright, in your face, unapologetic neon shade. It makes me feel like I'm a tough betch who can wear whatever I want, damn all who might be offended haha. Maybe that seems silly, but it's seriously how I feel when I wear neons. An example is Formula X Danger Zone. How hot is that??
Formula X Danger Zone

9. Indie or mainstream?
Usually I have a good mix of both that I pick to wear from, but these days I've been wearing (and blogging about) waaay more indies. I just find their selection to be so much more varied and unique than mainstream, which is kind of understandable, but still. And with the sheer number of indie brands out there that are producing such good products, it's hard not to want to buy everything in sight!

10. Which brand’s collections do you look forward to the most?
It has always been China Glaze for me. Out of the mainstream world, they have always been the ones to take chances instead of playing it safe when it comes to color and finish. They don't always get it 100% perfect, but who does? I've loved them since I started blogging and I don't see that changing any time soon.

Please please do this tag if you want, it's so fun! And if you don't have a blog or YouTube channel, let me know your answers in the comments! See ya again soon!

Rescue Beauty Lounge Fan Collection 3.0 Swatches & Review

Hi my darling friends! I'm so happy to share with you the newest Rescue Beauty Lounge collection today! This is the Fan 3.0 collection, the ideas for these seven shades were created by fans! True ReBeLs who won the chance to make their dream color with creator Ji Baek. This is the third collection of it's kind and I'm always so excited to see what the fans come up with!

GalaxSea was dreamed up to look like an amalgamation of the sea and outer space, longed for by fan Danielle. It's a darker lavender with blue glass flecks and crazy shimmer. This reminds me of the original Scrangie polish by RBL, but lighter and with shimmer "on steroids". It was on the thicker side, but went on without problems. I used two coats here.
Rescue Beauty Lounge GalaxSea

Electro Glacier is an icy pale blue with iridescent sparkles that was dreamed up by fan Ashley. It's quite a lovely color and makes me think of a unicorn! I found this to be a little thick and gritty, and I had trouble with it not really self-leveling. I used three coats here.
Rescue Beauty Lounge Electro Glacier

Sanguine started out in fan Lygie's mind as a jelly with suspended shimmer, but morphed into a smooth metallic in a robust cranberry. This had a fabulous formula, opaque in one coat but I did two to smooth it out a little more. This is a perfect shade for the coming winter!
Rescue Beauty Lounge Sanguine

Ethereal is a seashell-like shiny opalescent white with flashes of pink and gold imagined by fan Nancy. This is gorgeous and such a "me" shade, so great job Nancy haha! Pretty good formula for a metallic-y shade, but just a tad streaky although that's kind of a given with such a light shade. I used three coats for full opacity.
Rescue Beauty Lounge Ethereal

Vixen by Sassy Shelly is a shade fan Shelly felt had been missing from the RBL lineup, a rich and decadent magenta with insane shimmer and glass fleck. I am not going to say this color is necessarily unique, but this polish is really beautiful. Thin and very easy to control formula. I used two coats for her.
Rescue Beauty Lounge Vixen by Sassy Shelly

Golden Horn is fan Sara's brainchild, a similar type to RBL Naked Without Polish, but this one has an off-white base with soft shimmer and gold flakes. It was a little streaky at first, but evened itself out well on the second coat. I can't stop thinking about corn flakes in milk when I see this shade, but of course they are beautiful sparkly corn flakes! :)
Rescue Beauty Lounge Golden Horn

Many Splendors is a color envisioned by fan Angela, who wanted a volcanic lava-like shade. This is a black, gold and orange microglitter polish in a murky black/brown base with texture properties. I was thinking it was just regular microglitter until it dried, very quickly, and it turned into a craggy, sandy vision! I only needed two coats, though the second was a little more difficult to put on because it dried so quickly. This is really something.
Rescue Beauty Lounge Many Splendors

I applied top coat to see how it would look without it's natural finish. I needed two coats to cover the texture completely because it's very "thirsty". I really like it both ways!
Rescue Beauty Lounge Many Splendors

The polishes will retail for $20 each on the Rescue Beauty Lounge website; pre-order will start on October 13th and will last for 48 hours. If you haven't yet, sign up for email alerts on their website in order to get the link to the pre-order. The polishes will be available for regular purchase at a later date.

Tell me what you think of these pretties! If I have to pick a favorite, it's definitely Ethereal :)

Rescue Beauty Lounge Bloggers Collection 3.0 Swatches & Review

Today I'd like to show you the latest collection from Rescue Beauty Lounge, their third Bloggers collection! This time we have five shades created with the "newbie" bloggers that swatch & review for RBL. You may recall when I showed you the shade that I got to collaborate on a few years ago for the second bloggers collection, and the first collection with the original three bloggers from a few more years ago. These types of collections are always my favorites because they are colors from the brains of people who have experienced so many different types of polishes from lots of different brands and who know what they want down pat. Let's take a look!

MakeupWithdrawal is Mimi's color from the blog MakeupWithdrawal. She is gorgeous, has beautiful swatches and is an amazing photographer. Her pictures are seriously magazine worthy. This polish is a regal, decadent deep purple jelly with beautiful shimmer. I needed only two coats, but depending on your application you might need three due to the jelly finish.
Rescue Beauty Lounge MakeupWithdrawal

Manicurator comes from Victoria over at the Manicurator blog. She's definitely a kindred spirit that I've come to know and adore through blogging and I am glad to call her a friend. Her nails and photos are flawless! This color totally makes me think of her, it's a blue-green crelly with soft blue flakies. This makes me think of an island vacation! It was a bit streaky on the first coat; I used two coats here but this is another one where you might need three.
Rescue Beauty Lounge Manicurator

Yukie, from the blog Yukie Loves and the YouTube channel WarmVanillaSugar0823, created Morning Light for her color. She is so adorable, I love her videos and seeing her posts on Instagram. She knows a lot about makeup and nails, and is so fun to watch! This polish was inspired by a painting her late father did, so it's in his honor. It's a light pale powder blue with angelic gold shimmer. This was almost a one coater, way more opaque than I expected. Two coats.
Rescue Beauty Lounge Morning Light

PeachyPolish.com was created by Valesha, from Peachy Polish of course. This chick is totally my long lost sister, we get along so well! I wish we lived close to each other so we could hang out :) Her skills are undeniable, she's one of the best bloggers on the planet. This color is so elegant and mysterious, it's a burgundy berry metallic microshimmer. It's got that finish where the brushstrokes just melt away and you're left with a gorgeous satiny surface. Super easy to paint with, opaque in 1 coat but I used two out of habit.
Rescue Beauty Lounge PeachyPolish.com

And last we have Lakeisha's color, Refined and Polished, from the blog of the same name. This gal is so friendly and wonderful, I am really glad to know her! She's about ready to have a baby too, yay! Her beautiful, long nail beds are swoon-worthy. This is a peachy coral crelly with gorgeous indigo blue glitter. It's very unique. This has a great application, you get a good amount of glitter out on each coat without even trying. Two coats, dries a bit satiny so use a top coat for maximum shine.
Rescue Beauty Lounge Refined and Polished

Make sure to check out the swatches from the other ladies, and read more about the inspirations from the collaborators on their blogs, as well as swatches from all the bloggers: Polish Police, Fashion Polish, Refined and Polished, Peachy Polish, Manicurator, Yukie Loves, and MakeupWithdrawal.

This collection will be available for pre-order starting 6/22 for 48 hours on www.rescuebeauty.com. Be sure to sign up for their newsletter to get the link to the pre-order. The polishes retail for $20 each. Let me know what you think of these colors! I think this is one of my favorite collections RBL has ever done, there is not a dud in the bunch!

Rescue Beauty Lounge Je t'aime! Je t'aime! Collection Swatches & Review

--UPDATED: Now including the two other colors from the collection!--

Good morning! It's Rescue Beauty Lounge time yet again! They have a new collection out inspired by Parisian farmers markets called Je t'aime! Je t'aime! (I love you! I love you!). Be sure to check out the official Rescue Beauty Lounge blog post to learn more about the inspiration behind the collection here. This is a six shade collection, but two of the shades are unfortunately not ready yet. However, RBL wanted to release these four now anyway. The other two will be out in mid April (I think). Let's check these pretties out shall we?

First up is Ah, Oui which translates to "ah, yes". It's a springy bright periwinkle jelly crème that I'm seriously gaga over. This is actually a bit more vibrant in real life, photos cannot do it justice. I have honestly been obsessing over periwinkles this spring and even though I have a few favorites, this might beat them all. It's so shiny and squishy looking, but has a great opaque formula. This is two coats.
Rescue Beauty Lounge Ah, Oui Je t'aime! Je t'aime!

Next is Bonne Journee, "good day". It's a cool medium pink rose metallic with tiny subtle bits of copper sparkle. This had a thin formula but was easy to apply. It does turn out a little brushstrokey. I used three coats for full opacity. This isn't a color I would choose for myself, even being a pink lover, but I ended up liking how it looked on the nail.
Rescue Beauty Lounge Bonne Journee Je t'aime! Je t'aime!

Here we have C'est Tout, or "that's all". This is a gunmetal grey/silver metallic with a hint of green and sparkly bits of pink, blue and gold. It really does look like liquid metal. This has a fabulous formula, you might be able to get it opaque in one coat, but I used two here. It's a little more brushstrokey than I care for, and I don't know if the color suits me particularly well.
Rescue Beauty Lounge C'est Tout Je t'aime! Je t'aime!

This is Pardonne Moi, a chic way to say "excuse me". It's a gorgeous metallic indigo with purple flashing at the edges. In low light this looks very sleek and duochromey, but outside in full sun it transforms into a brilliant foily shimmer. A thin but manageable formula, this is three coats. The brushstrokes in this one appear to almost melt away when this dries, which I really liked.
Rescue Beauty Lounge Pardonne Moi Je t'aime! Je t'aime!

You can see in the shade photo how smooth it appears in lower lights, and how the purple comes peeking out.
Rescue Beauty Lounge Pardonne Moi Je t'aime! Je t'aime!

--Below is the updated portion of the post--

This is Combien?, which means "How much?" - a saying I'm sure you'd definitely need while visiting Paris :) It's a beige gold glass flecky sugary shimmer metallic with hints of pink. RBL says this dries down to a matte finish but the finish doesn't make that super apparent. It's not really my favorite shade but it has a great formula, applies very easily. Two coats.
Rescue Beauty Lounge Combien? Je t'aime! Je t'aime!

And last in the collection is Trois Oignons Rouges, meaning "three red onions". I personally detest onions with the fire of a thousand suns, but red onions are pretty gorgeous. This is a magenta purple jelly that dries to a rubbery satin-y finish. It was sort of streaky on the second coat but it evened out nicely on the third. I love this shade!
Rescue Beauty Lounge Trois Oignons Rouges Je t'aime! Je t'aime!

I wanted to show how it looked shiny, so this is it with a top coat. I might love it even more this way! You can still sort of see the whites of my free edge, but such is life with a jelly polish.
Rescue Beauty Lounge Trois Oignons Rouges

You can check out the other RBL bloggers' posts here: Peachy Polish, Manicurator, Fashion Polish, Makeup Withdrawal, NailsandNoms, WarmVanillaSugar1 and 2, The Beauty Look Book 1 and 2, Refined and Polished and Polish Police.

All the colors in the Je t'aime! Je t'aime! collection will be available for sale on Tuesday, April 28th on www.rescuebeauty.com for $20 each. What do you think of these two additions to the RBL family?

Au revoir!

A Few Comparisons - Cobalt Blues and Sage Greens

What's up friends? I had a few requests to do some comparisons on a couple polishes I've reviewed recently so I thought I'd throw 'em at ya today!

First is a comparison of some cobalt blue crèmes, motivated by my latest Rescue Beauty Lounge post. On my pointer finger is two coats of Nails Inc. Baker Street, on my middle finger is one coat of Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Pacific Blue (original formula), on my ring finger is two coats of Rescue Beauty Lounge All About Yves, and on my pinky is two coats of KBShimmer Low and Be Bold. If I was smart I should've switched my pointer and middle so this would've been an ombre ;) The closest color to All About Yves is probably Baker Street, but it's more of a crème and AAY is more jellyish. These all have amazing formulas. I can't pick one, I am glad I have them all.
Nails Inc. Baker Street, Sally Hansen Pacific Blue (original), Rescue Beauty All About Yves, & KBShimmer Low and Be Bold

Next is comparisons of some sage green shimmery/glittery polishes, prompted by my post on Illamasqua Melange. It's harder to get in the US now so people were asking about possible dupes. Sadly, there are none to be found here. On my pointer and pinky nails I have two coats of Illamasqua Melange, on my middle finger is two coats of discontinued Rescue Beauty Lounge Halcyon, and on my ring finger is two coats of Butter London Two Fingered Salute. I was actually surprised by how different these all are! I, again, love them all and can't pick a favorite.
Illamasqua Melange, Rescue Beauty Halcyon, Butter London Two Fingered Salute

If you were wondering about dupe possibilities or how these polishes compared to each other, I hope these helped you out! Love ya and we'll be together again soon :)

R29 + Rescue Beauty Lounge Collection Swatches & Review

This is a very exciting day my friends, because today I get to show you the newest collection from Rescue Beauty Lounge. It's a special one because it's a collaboration with none other than Refinery29! If you haven't heard, Refinery29 is an incredible fashion and style website that covers shopping, beauty, wellness and celebrities! The collection is called R29 + Rescue Beauty Lounge and it contains 7 new polishes created with the different teams from Refinery29.

Bubblegum Punk was created with R29 News team. This is a iridescent rainbowy silver white shimmer/flakes. I find this insanely gorgeous. It's got a cellophane effect that is really cool. I used three coats here. This would be really great layered as well.
Rescue Beauty Lounge Bubblegum Punk

It looks a bit different in the shade/low light so here's another shot for you.
Rescue Beauty Lounge Bubblegum Punk

Sunny Skies comes from the R29 Health and Wellness team. When I saw the name of this polish I expected to find a bright yellow in the box, but to my surprise and delight I saw a slightly dusty turquoisey blue-green crème. I can't believe we didn't already have this color in the RBL family, it feels essential and like it's been with me for years. I love it, but I have inklings that this might be a stainer so protect your nails with a double layer of base coat. Two coats.
Rescue Beauty Lounge Sunny Skies

Pretty Gritty was imagined by the R29 Beauty team. This was the one I was immediately in love with when I saw it. It's a bruised mauvey moody purple with tiny gold microshimmer flakes. I really like this and the formula is seriously terrific. Two coats but you might be able to get away with one.
Rescue Beauty Lounge Pretty Gritty

Better Than Boyfriend Jeans is the R29 Shopping team's color. This is an uber pale baby blue jelly crème that is really lovely and comforting. It is a tad greyed and sooo soft feeling, just like the perfect worn in pair of jeans! I love this way more than I expected to. Three coats.
Rescue Beauty Lounge Better Than Boyfriend Jeans

Elvis In The Cloud came from the minds of the R29 Technology team. This might be the color I never thought I'd see from RBL, it's so different from what we usually see from them. It's a mid-tone orange copper metallic with a touch of subtle duochrome iridescence. I keep reading this name as "elves" haha, which made sense because this leans a little on the christmas-y side for me. Two coats, a little brushstrokey.
Rescue Beauty Lounge Elvis In the Cloud

All About Yves is the R29 Fashion team's contribution. They chose a ridiculously beautiful cobalt blue creme that would look amazing on anyone. Lovely jelly crème formula with incredible pigmentation. I immediately thought of retired IKB:2012 when I saw this blue but it's a bit brighter with a better formula. Two coats gives you perfect opacity.
Rescue Beauty Lounge All About Yves

Galaxy Glue is the last shade and it comes from the R29 Creative team. It's a green metallic, same kind of finish as Elvis but less opaque. Reminds me a bit of that greeny blue duochrome that was really popular last year that lots of brands were coming out with, but it's pretty different. There's a hint of grey brown to it that makes it more complex and soft. Three coats, kinda brushstrokey.
Rescue Beauty Lounge Galaxy Glue

Be sure to check out the RBL blog and Refinery29 for more insight into how these colors came to life. Also, as always, please check out and enjoy the reviews from the other RBL bloggers: Peachy Polish, NailsandNoms, Manicurator, Polish Police, Refined and Polished, Fashion Polish, Makeup Withdrawal, Warm Vanilla Sugar and newcomer The Beauty Look BookScrangie may or may not be putting her post up at the same time, just an FYI.

These are available for purchase exclusively on RescueBeauty.com now for $20 per bottle. What do you think of these colors? I think the Refinery29 folks did an exceptional job on their color ideas and Ji brought them to life beautifully. My favorites are All About Yves, Bubblegum Punk and Better Than Boyfriend Jeans.

Thanks for stopping by!

Rescue Beauty Lounge Italian Summer Collection Swatches & Review

Hey folks, today I have another collection from Rescue Beauty Lounge! It's exciting to have another one so quickly, her releases are usually further apart but I don't mind at all because you know how I adore my RBLs! This collection is called Italian Summer.
The whiff of cool ocean breezes tickling your hair and the gleaming sun kissing and embracing your skin as you deeply breathe in the fragrances of flowers in full bloom, this, to me, had always symbolized summer. - Ji Baek, Italian Summer Press Release
First up is Gelato Al Cioccolato, of course inspired by chocolate gelato, a delicious Italian treat. I love taupe and I actually really enjoy brown polishes so this color is just perfect for me. In the sun it almost looks like it has a hint of purple which is cool. It was nice and buttery and was perfectly opaque in two coats. Mmm I can almost taste the chocolate just looking at this one!
Rescue Beauty Lounge - Gelato Al Cioccolato // kelliegonzo.com

Bicicletta is inspired by a young girl's pale pink sparkly bike Ji saw while in Italy. This is a gorgeous soft pale pink with lavender undertones. It's filled with the tiniest micro glitters ever, in silver and pink. This went on very smooth, great opacity in two coats. Reminds me of sugar, yum!
Rescue Beauty Lounge - Bicicletta // kelliegonzo.com

This is sexy. Gondoliere is a hot little number. It's named for the men who steer the gondolas floating in the canals around Venice. It's an orange based red, more so than previous RBL Bangin (which I sadly don't own). Almost a perfect one coat wonder, but I used two. It has that great thin but crazy pigmented and smooth crème formula that I love. If I was more of a red kinda girl, this would be on my digits on the reg. It's that good.
Rescue Beauty Lounge - Gondoliere // kelliegonzo.com

Now this color is more my normal style, Oliveto is an olive green that "reflects the flash of rainbow and purple and periwinkle shimmers". This is inspired by olive groves and the rustling olive branches in the sun. This was way more shimmery than I first expected looking at the bottle and I love it. Was a little thicker than the others. This is two coats.
Rescue Beauty Lounge - Oliveto // kelliegonzo.com

When I first saw Motorini, I was like, Aqua Lily? Is that you? Nope, it's not, but that's alright, it really stands on its own. Inspired by Ji's perfect scooter color, this is a darker and more blue version of Aqua Lily. I think it's a cross between it and Faraway. The shimmer is a purple toned pink which flashes in the light. It just glides on your nails, ahhh. Perfect in two thin coats.
Rescue Beauty Lounge - Motorini // kelliegonzo.com

A shade inspired by cats? I'm in heaven ;) Meow Meow comes from seeing the bright green eyes of cats flash in the dark during late night strolls in Italy. This glitter is really something, the bright springy hunter green is mixed with black which really makes the color pop. In the sun it almost has a navy look, but it's definitely black. This was harder to apply but not too difficult. I spread it like normal polish on the first coat, then kind of dabbed and pushed the glitter around on the second coat and it's pretty much totally opaque. It dries matte so top coat is necessary for a smooth look.
Rescue Beauty Lounge - Meow Meow // kelliegonzo.com

Melanzane is the last shade of the collection, inspired by eggplants. I have actually never tasted an eggplant, but they are pretty to look at. This is the same formula as Meow Meow, but with different sizes of glitter. The bigger pieces are in two shades of purple, a bluer one and a straight violet. The micro glitters are green which gives a ton of depth to the shade. This was easier to make look completely opaque. Two coats with top coat, as this also dries matte. Fabulous!
Rescue Beauty Lounge - Melanzane // kelliegonzo.com

Please take a look at Ji's inspiration video and her press release to learn more about this collection. Also, please check out the other RBL reviewers: Scrangie, NailsandNoms, Polish Police, Fashion Polish, Peachy Polish, Makeup Withdrawal, Manicurator and Warm Vanilla Sugar. Refined and Polished will have hers up at a later date.

These will go on pre-order for 48 hours on Monday, August 11, 2014. You can only get the link to the pre-sale emailed to you if you sign up for the RBL email list on their website beforehand. They will be available for purchase like normal at a later date if you cannot participate in the pre-sale. Each bottle is $20.

I really enjoyed this collection. The formulas of the non-glitters were so on point and easy to use. The glitters were just so lovely and unexpected, and their formulas were workable, so I'm not complaining at all. My favorites are probably Motorini and Meow Meow but I really like them all :) What do you think of these Italian beauties?
