FingerPaints Bright Lights Big City Collection Swatches & Review

Howdy! I hope you are doing well :) I wanted to show you the FingerPaints Bright Lights Big City collection today! It came out around the beginning of the year and it features six shades.

In the City Lookin' Pretty has a clear base filled with holographic silver and pale rosey pink metallic glitters. It's quite dense, a little thick but not hard to work with. I layered two coats over Color Club New-tral.
FingerPaints In The City Lookin' Pretty

Paint the Town Purple is a light cool lilacy purple glass fleck. This is pretty sheer, I had to use three thick coats to reach this level of opacity. It may be better suited as a layering polish, over a black would probably be very pretty.

This gal is called Dance Floor Diva, a clear base filled with metallic glitters in small purple squares, large silver and blue hexes and larger black and silver hexes. It's also nicely dense and easy to spread out on the nail. This is two coats over Color Club Midnight Mulberry. It's not really my style of glitter, but I ended up liking it with the base color I used.
FingerPaints Dance Floor Diva

Next is Hey Mr. DJ!, a black jelly with silver microglitter and red and blue tiny hex glitters. This was one I didn't expect to like that much but it's very pretty on the nail. This applies easily and is opaque in two coats.
FingerPaints Hey Mr. DJ!

Urban Lights is a real stunner. It has a black base with loads of colorshifting tealy blue to purple shimmer duochrome large shimmer bits. This photo does it no justice, it's a must have trust me. It was opaque in one coat, but I used two here because well, I always do haha!

Here is Urban Lights with indirect lighting from behind, to show the duochrome. It's CRAZY how different it looks in another light huh!

And last is What A Night, a copper/gold/pink duochromey foil. This is really gorgeous, very firey and autumnal. It seemed a little sheer on the first coat but was opaque on two. This would be another great one layered over black probably. I'll have to try that.

This is the indirect light shot of What A Night. No words. Stunning.

FingerPaints is sold at Sally Beauty Supply for $5.49 each. This was more of an end of winter collection, I was a little late getting these swatches up. Hopefully you'll still be able to find them in stores if you're interested in picking them up. Let me know what you think of these colors! Any favorites?

Bye friends!

Fingerpaints Holiday 2014 Winter Wishes Collection Swatches & Review

Hi there! I wanted to show you a five piece holiday glitter collection from FingerPaints today, called Winter Wishes. These are very similar in composition and vary mostly in color so that's why you see them on one finger instead of a full mani per color. Let's take a look!

On my thumb is Glisten Here, a mix of greyed out pink, blue, green, gold and silver glitters. My pointer finger has Wrapped in Ribbon, a blingy gold. My middle finger is wearing Ho Ho Happy Holidays, a pale blue and silver mix. On my ring finger I have Sugar & Spice, a cheery red. And last, on my pinky is Silver Bells, an icy silver. They all have finely milled microglitter and all except the blue shade have tiny hex glitters.

All of these swatches show two coats plus top coat. They are nicely dense and could be worn alone or layered. I quite like them, though they're not necessarily unique. These are available in Sally Beauty stores now for around $5-6 each. What do you think of these glitters? Any catch your eye?

Love ya!

FingerPaints Film Noir Collection Swatches & Review

FingerPaints is Sally Beauty's in-house brand of nail polish and I used to buy them all the time when I used to live by the stores. But since I've moved to a much smaller town, where the most exciting store is CVS :( , I haven't bought as many as I used to. So when I got the chance to try some of their recent collections for review, I was quite happy! This collection came out during the middle/end of the summer so they might still be in stores. It's called the Film Noir collection and it's made up of four polishes that all dry to a matte finish.

First is Petal Obsession, a pale baby pink. This had a quite finicky formula, it dries very quickly so it was hard to apply without big streaks. On the first coat, some areas even shrunk up like crackle polish does! After three coats though I was able to make it look even and nice looking. It dried very matte, not satiny.
FingerPaints Petal Obsession

Next is Beautiful Mystery, a pale baby blue. Same formula as the pink above, this is also three coats. I love this color!
FingerPaints Beautiful Mystery

This is Film Noir, a deep burgundy purple. It dries a few shades darker than it looks in the bottle. Same formula, maybe dried a tad slower than the others, so application was a little easier. Three coats.
FingerPaints Film Noir

And this is Hollywood Decadence, a pale milky base with a glitter mix of washed out blue, pink and gold hexes. Application was fairly easy, the glitter is quite dense. I don't really like the look of this and I have similar polishes that are prettier imho. After I did these swatches I saw some people used Hollywood over the other colors in the collection, and that looked much better than it did on its own. I used two thick coats here.
FingerPaints Hollywood Decadence

I like the look of matte polish but the application usually turns me off to buying them. I'd rather use regular polish and just apply a matte top coat. That said, there are some pretty colors in this collection if you don't mind the matte formula. Look for FingerPaints in your local Sally Beauty stores or online, they are around $5.50 per bottle. What do you think of this polish quartet? Would you wear any of them? How do you feel about mattes?

See ya next time :)

FingerPaints Gumdrops & Lollipops Collection

Hidey ho everyone :) Today I have to show you the newest collection from FingerPaints, the nail polish brand exclusive to Sally Beauty Supply. The group is called Gumdrops & Lollipops, which instantly brings images of my childhood and playing Candy Land to my mind haha. I like the pastel shades intermingling with brights idea, very Spring.

First up is Blue Raspberry Taffy. It's a bright blue cream, along the lines of the Airhead candy. Opaque and almost chalky, in that mod realm. This is three coats because the formula is not fab. It's rather streaky and thick, actually all of these are. I do like this color and would wear it again.

Here is Lemon Sour, a pale canary yellow cream. Another formula I'm not happy with, thick and streaky.  This is three coats.

Next is Pop Rock Pink. I love this polish, even though it is thick as a mofo. Jelly bright poppy pink with micro glass flecks. Very pretty in real life, hard to translate in a photo. Three coats again, just to build it up since it's a jelly. Key is to apply thin coats and wait for them to dry in between so you don't end up with a mess.

Here is Choco Mint, a delicious shade and a yummy ice cream flavor! This actually turned out to be more blue than I expected, but it still qualifies as mint green. I have a million of this color, and I definitely have some that apply better. Three coats here as well, because of streaks.

Next is Grape Gumball. I don't think of this as a grape, more of a blurple. I like the glass flecks in this and it was the nicest formula in the bunch. Two coats.

Last is Circus Peanuts. When I unpacked these guys, I thought this one was a gonner, as I saw melon color all over the box and other polishes. Fortunately it hadn't broken, just leaked because the lid wasn't on tight. *phew* I hate the candy circus peanuts, they're disgusting and just blech. Fortunately I do like this color, it's just that these pale orange creams don't look great on me. Idk why but that's the way it is. This is two coats.

Overall I like the idea of this collection but not the execution. FingerPaints sell for $4.99 each at Sally Beauty Supply stores and on www.sallybeauty.com.

Spring Favorites

Hey everyone :) I hope you had a lovely weekend! I want to start doing "Favorites" posts every few months so I can let you know the things I'm diggen' lately, there are so many things I love that come and go that I really am remiss in letting everyone know about. This will just be a round up of things, mostly nail related, beauty related, maybe a few miscellaneous things thrown in, I don't know I haven't quite figured it out yet.

Favorite Moisturizer as of now -  True Blue Spa Super Softening Hand Lotion Paraffin, Look Ma, New Hands. This stuff is awesome, I have it in the trial/travel size, 2.5 fl. oz and I definitely need to go back and stock up because it's amazing. I love it after I finish a manicure or just when my hands need a good drink. It smells like orange blossom. You can get it at Bath & Body Works.

Favorite Polish Remover as of now - Beauty Secrets Non-Acetone. This stuff isn't bothering my nose as much right now, it smells a little like blueberry candy maybe? And it's very cheap. I am dryer than usual and my regular acetone/glycerin cocktail remover was exacerbating the effects of the sun. This one is more moisturizing and the non-acetone isn't as bad at removing as most of the others that I've tried. You can get this at Sally Beauty. An honorable mention goes out to Butter London Powder Room Non-Acetone remover.

Favorite Polish as of right now - I'm obsessed with getting all the China Glaze Kicks collection polishes. Idk why now, because they came out in Spring 2009, but I feel the need to have them immediately haha. I think I still need: B-Girlz, Breakin', Fly, It's Poppin', and How Street It Is. Also, my friend Kae has made some beautiful frankens I've shown you here and here. I still have one very SEXY special one to show you soon that will blow you away, hehe.

Favorite Top Coat as of right now - I am back in love with my old standby Poshe. It really is superior to Seche Vite in my book. Applies better, lasts longer without getting thick, and doesn't shrink my polish.
Image via Amazon.com
Favorite Base Coat as of right now - To stop my nails from getting stains, the best base coat I've found is Lumos Instant Impact Bottom coat. I'll be doing a full review on this soon, so stay tuned.
Image via Famous Names Products
Favorite Nail Treatment - To get my tips longer and stronger than they've been in a LONG time, my secret is Nail Magic--a formaldehyde based strengthener. This won't work for everyone but it has gotten rid of my peels and give me healthy, hard tips. I've stopped using it for now to give my nails a break so they won't get too hard and brittle. You can get Nail Magic at Sally Beauty.

That's all I have for this installment :) What are some of your current favorites? I'd love to hear them in the comments!!

FingerPaints Peace, Love, & Color Sneak Peek

FingerPaints Palette of Petals

Today I have the new Spring FingerPaints Palette of Petals collection, exclusive to Sally Beauty Supply.
Let's start with my favorite shall we? Did You Ast-her Out? is a gorgeous jelly crème bright medium pink. Love these colors for springtime! This had a fabulous formula and was nice looking at two coats but perfect at three. Oh btw, I used a topcoat with all of these swatches, even though I usually don't. They don't dry terribly shiny on their own.
Chrysanthe-mum’s the Word is a bright mint green crème. The formula on this was a tad thick but still reasonably easy to work with. Very spring-y and nice. Three coats.
Aren’t You Glad-iolous? is a funny name, especially if you said it with a pause where the dash is. If you don't, it's alright. I enjoy Gladiolus flowers, they're very pretty. Too bad I didn't care for this polish all that much. I found it very streaky and thick, and the color looked atrocious on me. Three coats.
I thought I would love Dahlia My Number, but I didn't fall head over heels with it once I had her on. It's the only non-crème in the collection, a mid-tone orange with brighter goldish-orange finely ground shimmer. I needed three coats to get this to look opaque so I'm not terribly impressed.
On the other hand, I wasn't sure if I would like Heavenly Hydrangeas, but I ended up really liking it. The "rose" shade, as it was described, looks more like a purple magenta crème to me. This looked great in two coats.
Carnation Creation is the lacquer that I was mostly excited for in this collection, and it didn't disappoint. A bright teal-toned blue, this crème flowed nice and evenly over my nails and was highly pigmented. Two coats for this guy. Too bad he's named after the worst flower ever ;)
What's the verdict on this bright Spring collection? Any favorites? Oh yeah, how cute is that flower ring?! I only got one but I assume they will be sold one to each bottle :) Adorable!

fingerpaints BCA polishes

i told you all a couple posts ago (here) about two polishes that FingerPaints had come up with to bring awareness to Breast Cancer during the month of October. now i have them to show you "in person"!

i'm a survivor is a bright candy pink with a wash of silvery/white shimmer that shows *just* enough through the color to make it a fun and exciting polish. exactly what i would want to wear to declare my "womanhood"!  plus i had that Destiny's Child song "i'm a survivor" stuck in my head the entire day i wore this haha.  the formula on this was absolutely awesome, three coats, no fuss.

i pink i can looks like it has the same silvery/white shimmer but this time it's in a baby pink opaque base color and it's a bit more subtle. very appropo for the Breast Cancer foundation, i think, as the awareness ribbon is after all, a medium/light pink. i had a bit of trouble with the application of this one, it was a bit thick but after i worked with it a bit it was ok. just make sure to allow the layers of polish to dry a bit between coats, think of it as a pastel almost. i might thin it the next time i use it, to make it easier though i think.  this is 3 coats.
these should be available at sally beauty starting in october, which is Breast Cancer Awareness month, for about $4.99.
