Guest Post by ManiGeek: OPI Suedes 2009

Hi there! How are you today my fine friends? A while ago, I asked a few of my blogging buddies if they could throw me a guest post for a vacation I was planning on taking during the end of July and wouldn't be able to blog during. Well, sadly that didn't end up happening, but that's ok. I still had their fabulous guest posts and still want to show them off because they're amazing! Today you'll be entertained and amused by Karen from BeautyGeeks. Please enjoy!

MANIGEEK PLAYS OPI SUEDES FOR KELLIE G

Fellow polish junkies! A couple weeks ago my favourite nail painter Kellie G (you know I call her Kell-eh, right? – it’s a Canadian thing) hollered and asked if I’d do a guest post for her. I was all like “Hellz yeah! I’ll do you a couple BLOPIs!”

As I was wandering through The Archives, I ran into a couple OPI Suedes and thought “Hmmmm… “

OPI Lincoln Park After Dark Suede is a stunning matte metallic eggplant. Totally smooth to the touch, this One Coat Wonder actually makes me giddy. It’s one of those things I’ll never, ever give up. Like, ever.

OPI Lincoln Park After Dark Suede bears absolutely no resemblance to the Lincoln Park After Dark 2005 and never did. In fact, none of the Suedes look anything like their original namesakes. Weird.

OPI Ink Suede almost leans purple but doesn’t quite get there. Instead, it’s a metallic-matte silver blurple. Perfect in one coat with no base coat and no top coat. These are the bottles I reach for when I need a fast mani because I gotta haul ass out the door. One coat and dry in 5 minutes flat. #TrueStory

You can still find bottles from the OPI Suede collection floating around on both eBay and Amazon.com but prices vary wildly. I’m still working on mine and maybe one day, I’ll have ‘em all.

Thanks for the read, Kellie G fans! I know both you and I are looking forward to her return so she can once again fill our feeds with pretty nails. In the meantime, thanks for letting me play in your sandbox Kell-eh!

I'm in awe of Karen's beautiful photos and her perfect nails and muticles (mutant cuticles). She lives in Canada, my favorite country other than the US, and her outrageous sense of humor and the fact that she puts up reviews of new collections so fast makes reading her blog an utter delight. Her writing is seriously second to none and she's just a special chick. I adore her and I am sure you will too! Please check out Karen at the links above!

Revlon Emerald City and Fire Fox

Love these matte suede Revlons. I've already shown you Ruby Ribbon, and now here is two others from this collection.

Emerald City is a gorgeous sparkley green, kind of similar to OPI's Matte Suede Here Today...Aragon Tomorrow. This was super easy to apply, but slow to dry. Don't expect these to dry as fast as regular matte colors. Oh well, it looks pretty fab with a top coat too.

Fire Fox is a polish I borrowed from my friend Mickelle (actually I borrowed EC too, haha I forgot about that). I wasn't sure if it was really "me" but I might try and find it in stores still because it's actually pretty fab. It's a bright orangey red with a bit of a pink flash, which is cool for it being a matte. Although, these are "suede" and not flat matte or anything.

Did you guys pick up anything from this collection? I've heard rumors that they are permanent, but I'm not sure. They look like holiday colors to me, but who knows...anyone?

Revlon Ruby Ribbon

Revlon put out Ruby Ribbon in their holiday display this year; a matte ruby red with some shimmer. The shimmer is similar to OPI's Here Today...Aragon Tomorrow that I just showed you, perhaps a little heavier. The color is beautiful, albeit darker than it looks in the bottle. These "satin" finish mattes are way easier to apply than the chalky matte polishes, and that's just fine with me :) Even if they take a smidge longer to dry than most mattes. This is two coats.

OPI Here Today...Aragon Tomorrow Suede

Hi everyone :)  I hope your weekend is going well.  I am stressing a bit, because even though it's technically a "vacation" for me (Thanksgiving break) from school, my professors are cruel and decided to make most of their assignment due dates land right afterward.  Boo :P  So that means I have a LOT of homework.  Oh well.   At least the weather is still nice this weekend.

I would like to show you one of my new favorite polishes.  This is OPI's Here Today Aragon Tomorrow, the suede version.  Holy crap this is freaking beautiful!!  A beautiful mid-tone green matte shade that is positively packed with shimmer, giving it that signature suede finish.  I think this is totally the best out of the suede polishes that OPI has put out.  I hope they do more colors like this.  The swatch is two coats.

lincoln park after dark suede

i was chomping at the bit to get the suede polishes that opi came out with back in winter of '09. i was over the moon for them! literally head over heels. uhh...what's another cliche i can throw in there...haha. seriously though, i needed them baaaad. i have them all now except suzi skis in the pyrenees. and i la la love them! you're probably getting sick of me saying that, but i don't like posting pictures of polishes that i don't like haha. makes sense huh? although it can be helpful so i do it on occasion.

anywhooo, this lovely gem is lincoln park after dark suede by opi. again i don't understand why they just renamed their suede collection polishes after their core line polishes. but whatev, what's in a name? LPADS is a gorgeous deep purple matte with that "trademarked" suede look. the new mac studded polish has the same look, and a few of the china glaze glass fleck polishes take on the effect if you mattify them IMHO. i love the suede collection as far as mattes go because they are super easy to apply, easier than most mattes because they don't dry immediately. but you do have to be more careful than with regular polish as brush strokes can and will happen if you aren't. this is two coats :)

you don't know jacques suede

i la la love opi's suede collection! it is seriously genius. although i agree with pretty much everyone on the planet when i say that i think that they got lazy on naming them after polishes they already had, especially since they barely resemble their namesakes. oh well!

this guy is you don't know jacques suede. i left him matte cuz i like it like that! although they are breathtaking when covered with shiny topcoat. this is two coats. i found these much easier to work with than the previous matte collection, they dried less quickly but they were still not as easy to apply as regular polish. you really have to plan where you're going place your brush strokes or else you end up with a mess IMHO. i need to get all of the suedes, i'm just procrastinating. idk why haha.
the bottom picture is slightly more greyed, which i think is more color accurate than the top pic. i couldn't fix it :P
