The Hungry Asian Dream Glitter Toppers Swatches & Review

Hi friends! Today I have two new polishes from the indie brand The Hungry Asian. They are both fine holographic glitters in clear bases designed to be layered over other colors.
The Hungry Asian - Dream House & Dream Car // kelliegonzo.com

On my pointer and ring finger is Dream House, which is gold and on my middle and pinky fingers is Dream Car, which is silver. Both are super densely packed and easy to apply. This is one thick coat each over black. They dry slightly matte so you'll need a shiny top coat over them.

I put a short video on my instagram a while ago to show the blingyness a little better. (Sorry, I didn't know how to mute it or add music or anything so you can hear me mouth breathing, I think I had a cold or something at the time haha.)

You can purchase these from The Hungry Asian's Etsy store for $9.25 each for a full size bottle or $4.50 each for a mini. Or you can buy both full size together in a set for $16.50, which saves you $2.00! Everything they put out is of excellent quality and these are no exception. I think they're really must haves for anyone who likes to layer with glitter. What do you think of these?

The Hungry Asian Spring 2014 Collection Swatches & Review

Hi everyone! Today I wanted to show you the new collection from The Hungry Asian for Spring 2014. It's a collection of 5 new polishes and a cuticle oil. The shades don't really have a theme but they remind me of easter so it's a perfect time for you to get them on your nails!

First up is Smooth Criminail, a shimmery pastel blue with small and medium purple, orange, blue, pink and teal hex glitters. This is so adorable, it reminds me of easter candy eggs. I really love the shimmer running through the blue. I used three thin coats here.
The Hungry Asian - Smooth Criminail

Next is Starstruck, a glitter mix in a clear base. The glitters are short holographic strings and pale pink mirrored circles. So unique and quite fun! I was surprised at how much I liked this! I layered two coats over China Glaze Lotus Begin.
The Hungry Asian - Starstruck

Here is Peachy Keen, a peachy orange creme packed with bright glitters in hex, string, and round shapes in matte and shiny finishes. This one isn't my favorite with my skin tone unfortunately. This is two coats. There is a ton of glitter in this one so it's a tad thick which can make tricky to apply evenly.
The Hungry Asian - Peachy Keen

This one is Lavender Cream, my babe! I am head over heels with this gorgeous pale purple with satin glitters in mint, pearl, pink, purple and green. Seriously love. This is three thin coats.
The Hungry Asian - Lavender Cream

And last is Carpe Dayum (haha love the name!) a clear glitter topper with holographic and matte pink shreds with blue/green iridescent glitter bits. O_O Can I just say DAYUM! This polish is seriously crazy cool. I can't think of anything I have that is similar. I put two coats over China Glaze Peonies & Park Ave.
The Hungry Asian - Carpe Dayum

I had to show it to you in the shade too, so you can really see the smaller glitters and the glow they have. Ooh! I just love this!

And the last part of the collection is Kae's new cuticle oil. It comes free as a promotion if you spend $20+ (before tax and shipping) at her store. It's made of sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, grape seed oil and fragrance. I thought the White Gardenia scent would be too strong for me, because most scents are, but this one is actually very subtle and mild. I catch just a hint of it every now and then when I wear it and I think it's lovely. You know I am obsessed with my Bliss Kiss oil, but this one is quite nice and we can all use more cuticle oils in our life ;)

You can purchase these from The Hungry Asian Etsy store for $9.25 for a full size 15ml bottle and $4.50 for 5ml minis. All my readers can get 15% off a minimum purchase of $15 (before taxes and shipping) if you use the promo code KELLIE15 (active until May 7, 2014) Yay! What do you think of these spring pretties? Any catch your eye? I'll see you next time my dears!

The Hungry Asian Holiday 2013 Collection Swatches & Review

Hi everyone! I have some awesome new polishes from my friend Kae, aka The Hungry Asian. She's been making polish for a few years and I've shown you some in the past. She's just put out seven new shades for the 2013 Holiday season and it is my great joy to show them off to you!

First is Snow Sprinkles, a white jelly creme with teal, blue, red & pink glitters and baby pink stars. I love the combo of the glitters in this, it is holiday but also Americana! I love the stars in this, but you can just barely see the one on my middle finger, it's a little hidden. This is three coats. You could layer one or two over a white creme for a more opaque look, but I think the appeal of these is to see the layers of glitter, the depth, haha.
The Hungry Asian - Snow Sprinkles

Next is Frigid Digits, which you might've seen a peek of last week if you follow me on Instagram. This is an icy teal glitter in all sizes with some white glitters in bars, squares, hexes, and dots in a clear base. The white glitters really make the blue pop huh! I layered two heavy coats over Zoya Natty.
The Hungry Asian - Frigid Digits

Here is Evergreen, a squishy creme that shines like crazy. It's a dark olive green with tons of green microglitter and some subtle blue and gold multicolored pigment bits. I absolutely LOVE this polish. It's deep and not in your face Christmasy but nicely fits with the season I think. This is two coats.
The Hungry Asian - Evergreen

This one is called Sleigh Bells Bling (such a cute name). It's a green and red glitter mix of all shapes and sizes with a gorgeous gold shimmer in a clear base. Another hit for me! This reminds me of a bag of ribbons and bows all mixed up and glowing from holiday lights or something. I used two coats over Evergreen.
The Hungry Asian - Sleigh Bells Bling

Happy Blue Year is so excellent, just so fun and pretty. It's a dark blue jelly with red, purple, and silver glitters and larger silver holo hexes. I found it really easy to apply and spread the glitter on this one, which I wasn't expecting. This is three coats.
The Hungry Asian - Happy Blue Year

Next is Secrets, a scattered holographic dusty purple with tiny red sparkles. My camera kept wanting to make this more blue toned, so I had to correct it. I think it's pretty close to the true color. This one is really pretty and glows just right in the sun. Two coats here.
The Hungry Asian - Secrets

And last is Who Needs Diamonds?, a seriously blingy gold hex glitter and shimmer polish. Kae said she meant this to be a one coat layering polish but I used two here for more impact over a black creme. I love how reflective the glitters are, you need to see this baby in action! Also, the glitters lay flat, no curling. I freaking live for gold so this is right up my alley.
The Hungry Asian - Who Needs Diamonds?

You can get these from The Hungry Asian Etsy store for $9.25 for a full size bottle and $4.50 for a mini (heart shaped!) bottle. They are having a Black Friday sale on 11/29 starting at midnight for 20% with a minimum purchase of $25 or more, code is THA20. What do you think of these fabulous holiday polishes?

Two Autumn Manicures

Autumn?! Uhh, pretty sure it's winter Kel. That might be what you're thinking, but yes these are autumnal type manicures but I still wanted to show them to you cuz they're awesome. And as I frequently tell my mother, I do what I want! ;)

This is Jinx by The Hungry Asian. She came out with this close to Halloween and I snatched it right up. It's a black cream with large orange hex glitters, medium/small yellow, silver, and gold hexes, and micro orange bits. It's a fab Halloween polish. This is three coats.

Rootsy by Sheswai is a "rich, roasted caramel pumpkin" cream. I didn't like this at first but I wanted to, so I made myself wear it as a full manicure and it really grew on me. It's oddly flattering and was so in season it was ridiculous (I wore this near the middle of November). This is two coats. And I always have to mention their beautiful bottles and wooden handles. Just love!

You can buy The Hungry Asian polishes from her Etsy store for $9.25 and $4.50 for a mini. You can get Sheswai lacquers from their online store for $16.

The Hungry Asian - Belle

Hi everyone! I hope you have had a wonderful weekend and are in the mood for the nice bright week ahead. I have a wonderful indie polish to show you from my favorite Etsy seller, Kae of The Hungry Asian! Here is one of her newest creations, called Belle.

This is a milky white jelly with small pink hex glitter and medium brown hex glitter. Very unique and super adorable! I felt very girly wearing this mani. This is four coats with topcoat. I am loving these polishes that give the look of a glitter sandwhich without the layering :) This also looks badass matte, forgot to photograph them though.

You can get this at http://www.etsy.com/shop/TheHungryAsian, $9.25 for a full size bottle (15 ml) and $4.50 for the mini size (5 ml) which is the one I opted for. What do you think of this?

The Hungry Asian Glitter Spam

If you love glitter and you don't know about The Hungry Asian and her nail polish creations, you're missing out! My girl Kai creates mad glitter polish like a boss. I've longtime been a fan of her franken polishes and she's selling them on Etsy now, much to my and polish lovers everwhere's delight :) I ordered some from her store a while ago and I couldn't be happier with them!

First up is Twenty Ten. I LOVE dark glitters, they are so mysterious and uber sexy. This one has small square red glitter, microfine and small blue hex glitter in a sheer black base. I layered two coats onto Misa's A Sin Worth Committing. My mom was dying to put this on when I showed her my goodies! (P.S. she's been having me do her nails ever since I moved back in with her and she's dangerously close to becoming an addict haha)

Here is U Jelly?, a flippen adorable name for a polish btw. It's a cherry pink jelly with sparse fine red and light purple glitter. Uhh, Kai did you make this thing for me?! Cuz I'm head over heels for it! This is three coats.

Next is Mumbling, whoa glitter bomb!! It has large, medium and small holographic hexagon glitter in both silver and pale gold in a very subtle golden shimmering base. I freaking love this polish. I don't think Kai has made one that I don't love yet! This is three coats.

I Hate Pink is a polish of her's I've been wanting for a while and I'm so glad I finally have it! She's made of pink hexagon holographic glitter with smaller pink glitter and crimson micro glitter in a clear base. I think this looks so cool close up, I want to do a jelly/glitter sandwich with it soon. This is three coats.

Next is Sea Creature, uhh this is AMAZE-a-balls! It has medium holographic bright blue hexagon glitter, small black glitter with fuchsia and green superfine glitter in a lightly blackened base. I think all of these full glitters will look best layered over a solid color polish but for review sake, I did them on their own. This is three coats. You NEED THIS!!

And last is Vote for Purple, a pale lavender and small square and medium silver hex glitter in a subtle shimmering base. This is two coats over top of Essie's She's Picture Perfect. I don't think I've seen another glitter polish in this shade before and I adore it!

The full size bottles cost $9.25 and the mini bottles are $4.50 and you can get them at her Etsy store. I personally love mini bottles because I will probably never finish a whole bottle of any polish, haha, plus these heart bottles are so cute! The brush on them is fab too. I can't say enough about these, they're all amazing.

Guest Post by Nightly Nails: Uninhibited Marshmallow

Please enjoy this guest post by my girl Nicole from Nightly Nails!

Hi everyone! I'm excited to be able to do a post for Kellie, and let's just be honest, a little nervous. She's a rockstar, and Also Known As is her stage, right? So it took me a minute to figure out what to wear.

I recently picked up one of the L.A. Girl Glitter Addict polishes - the black one, called Uninhibited. I think this is really the only one I wanted - it's straight black glitter in a clear base. I'd never seen that before! Actually, it has two sizes of glitter: smaller, square glitter and larger hexagons. It was sitting on my desk, calling to me. I started thinking that I didn't have Kae's gorgeous franken, Cookies and Cream, and I've been lemming it for a while. I thought if I paired Uninhibited with a white, I might slay that lemming! It worked. I used two thin coats of Essie's Marshmallow, a squishy white jelly, and then one coat of L.A. Girl Uninhibited for this. I can't stop staring at my nails!

It's not the exact same as Cookies and Cream, obviously, but I do love the combination of the soft, squishy white and the stark splatters of black glitter. What do you think?

Huge thanks to Kellie for featuring me on Also Known As! I am completely honored.

I adore my Nikki Sue and am so glad she's back to blogging (she left her original blog, Magic Maid, a few months ago). I'm so freaking in love with this glitter polish, I NEED IT!! Thanks for the guest post mami!

The Hungry Asian - Sneeze Breeze

Greetings darlings :) I am beyond excited to show you this polish, made by my friend Kae who runs The Hungry Asian blog. I told you a while ago she was making her franken polishes available to buy and I am so glad she made more of this fab polish, called Sneeze Breeze. It was sold out the first time I tried to buy it from her and I was lucky to snag one the second time it became available. You can see some of her other great frankens for sale on her blog shop page.

Sneeze Breeze is a glitter polish consisting of bright blue and black glitter speckles. This glitter is special because it's not "glittery" per say, it's more "speckly". Very unique and fun! I used this for layering, I don't know if it would ever get opaque by itself haha. I used China Glaze's Blue Sparrow for the base color, two coats. It is from the INK collection that came out in Summer 2008. It by itself has tiny blue glitter, you can see my review of it here, but with Sneeze Breeze over it all you really see is the blue base, which is a dead ringer for the blue in SB. I got the idea for this combo from my girl ChaosButterfly who runs The Phalanges Files. This has to be one of my favorite manicures that I've ever done.

Do you love it? Or is it too weird for you?

Spring Favorites

Hey everyone :) I hope you had a lovely weekend! I want to start doing "Favorites" posts every few months so I can let you know the things I'm diggen' lately, there are so many things I love that come and go that I really am remiss in letting everyone know about. This will just be a round up of things, mostly nail related, beauty related, maybe a few miscellaneous things thrown in, I don't know I haven't quite figured it out yet.

Favorite Moisturizer as of now -  True Blue Spa Super Softening Hand Lotion Paraffin, Look Ma, New Hands. This stuff is awesome, I have it in the trial/travel size, 2.5 fl. oz and I definitely need to go back and stock up because it's amazing. I love it after I finish a manicure or just when my hands need a good drink. It smells like orange blossom. You can get it at Bath & Body Works.
Image via Bath & Body Works
Favorite Polish Remover as of now - Beauty Secrets Non-Acetone. This stuff isn't bothering my nose as much right now, it smells a little like blueberry candy maybe? And it's very cheap. I am dryer than usual and my regular acetone/glycerin cocktail remover was exacerbating the effects of the sun. This one is more moisturizing and the non-acetone isn't as bad at removing as most of the others that I've tried. You can get this at Sally Beauty. An honorable mention goes out to Butter London Powder Room Non-Acetone remover.
Image via Sally Beauty
Favorite Polish as of right now - I'm obsessed with getting all the China Glaze Kicks collection polishes. Idk why now, because they came out in Spring 2009, but I feel the need to have them immediately haha. I think I still need: B-Girlz, Breakin', Fly, It's Poppin', and How Street It Is. Also, my friend Kae has made some beautiful frankens I've shown you here and here. I still have one very SEXY special one to show you soon that will blow you away, hehe.
Image via China Glaze
Favorite Top Coat as of right now - I am back in love with my old standby Poshe. It really is superior to Seche Vite in my book. Applies better, lasts longer without getting thick, and doesn't shrink my polish.
Image via Amazon.com
Favorite Base Coat as of right now - To stop my nails from getting stains, the best base coat I've found is Lumos Instant Impact Bottom coat. I'll be doing a full review on this soon, so stay tuned.
Image via Famous Names Products
Favorite Nail Treatment - To get my tips longer and stronger than they've been in a LONG time, my secret is Nail Magic--a formaldehyde based strengthener. This won't work for everyone but it has gotten rid of my peels and give me healthy, hard tips. I've stopped using it for now to give my nails a break so they won't get too hard and brittle. You can get Nail Magic at Sally Beauty.

That's all I have for this installment :) What are some of your current favorites? I'd love to hear them in the comments!!

The Hungry Asian's Originals: Charity Trio

My wonderfully talented friend Kae from The Hungry Asian blog recently started selling some franken polishes she mixes up herself. She decided to give the proceeds from the profits of her mini sets to Red Cross Japan to help rebuild after the devastation earlier this year. The mini sets all include her two most popular polishes, Strawberry and Cookies n' Cream plus another polish. There are currently three or four different mini sets to choose from on sale now I believe. I got the one that included Watermelon.
Strawberry is a red crème with a black glitter speckles. The exact thing I think of when I hear Strawberry in the context of a nail polish. This is two coats.
Cookies n' Cream is a super awesome white crème polish with black glitter speckles. Totally reminds me of the ice cream, yummmm :) This is three coats.
Watermelon is a juicy pink jelly crème with tons of icy green crystal micro glitter pieces. This is so pretty and fun and perfect for summer, I love this! Two coats.
You can buy this set from The Hungry Asian blog shop for $15, and remember all proceeds from the mini sets go to Red Cross Japan :D
